Senior Associate Attorney Jalen Toms began her legal career as a clerk at the Law Offices of Katherine E. Blackmon. “I knew the firm had a strong reputation,” she said, “and I wanted to learn from the best in the practice and litigation of family law. I take pride in how Katherine has taught me to practice law and I grow every single day as an attorney and advocate. When I’m referred to as her ‘mini me,’ I know I’m doing it right.”

Toms’ decision to practice family law reflects the soft spot she has for those most in need of guidance and support. She is passionate about animal rescue and has clerked for the Animal Legal Defense Fund, served as president of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund at Bowen Law School and has fostered and rescued a multitude of neglected and abused animals. This passion translates perfectly into her cases.

“The clients we represent are often going through what could be considered the most emotionally fraught situations they have ever been in,” she said. “We truly care about the emotional well-being of our clients, while also being their strongest advocate in the courtroom and the duration of their case.”

Outside of the office and courtroom, Toms enjoys spending time with her two retired racing greyhounds and three cats, reading thriller books and binging the latest TV shows.
