Early in his career, Phil appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that established the constitutionality of the Civil Rights Attorney Fees Act. He later fought the Little Rock Board of Censors through court action, clearing the way for the Broadway musical “Hair” to appear in Little Rock.
Appellate work has been a significant part of his practice before both the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Arkansas Supreme Court, but, for Phil, trying a case before a jury remains the most exciting and rewarding part of the practice.
“I have been honored by my peers by being chosen for membership in the American Board of Trial Attorneys (ABOTA), the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL), and now by the readers of Soirée.”
Phil and Ruthie, his wife, are proud parents of Andrew and Julie. Their grandchildren are a continual source of joy. Alex is a CPA, Emily leaves for the Peace Corps in Zambia in February for a 27-month assignment, and Matthew is enjoying his freshman year at Kansas University.
