With more than 21 years of experience representing corporate, real estate and personal injury clients, Deb Riordan has developed a highly successful legal practice. From her appellate victories in fighting arbitration agreements, preserving physician-patient confidentiality, opposing abuses of the nonprofit form, challenging the United States’ construction of the Arkansas Recreational Use Statute in the Albert Pike flood cases, and defeating Arkansas’ Voter ID law, Deb Riordan is skilled in all areas of appellate practice. She has served as counsel on more than 75 appeals in the Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri appellate courts, as well as in the United States Court of Appeals’ 5th and 8th Circuits. Additionally, she has assisted counsel in preparing appellate briefs in Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia. Still, she says the greatest compliment she receives is when a fellow attorney hires her to handle or assist with their appeal. “The perspective an attorney needs to be successful on appeal is different than the perspective needed to be successful at the trial court level. My writing adds benefit and value to cases. By collaborating with the trial attorney early in a case, I can empower him to focus on case development, which can be pivotal to winning at the trial and appellate levels,” says Riordan.
In addition to her appellate practice, Riordan is working with attorneys from Trammell Piazza Law Firm, PLLC, to develop an innovative “general counsel” service for small businesses. Launching in January 2015, VP Legal will offer small-businesses experienced, high-quality legal assistance on a more cost-effective basis than if they hired in-house counsel.
In her spare time, Riordan enjoys volunteering with the 20th Century Club, cheering on daughters Spencer and Neely in their school activities and cheering on the Hogs with her husband, Gary – always aiming for her license plate’s designation, “HOGFAN1.”
