John Starling is motivated by the satisfaction he gets when a client’s complicated matters are resolved. A Pine Bluff native, he went to school in Fayetteville for undergrad and law school. Among his company’s core values? Technology. Starling says it is the ultimate driving force in his business model. He has been utilizing and building technology for over five years, and feels that it is going to be the only way to manage all of the compliance hurdles created by the PPACA. Starling is married to Victoria, and they have two children, Pierce and Walton.

How many years have you been in the business? 21 years. The first five were exclusively practicing law and the remaining 16 have been in the employee benefits/consulting field.

Which lines of insurance do you specialize in? Large-group employee benefits

Who is your mentor? Although I have many mentors to thank, my late father had the most impact on my life. He taught me how to be a man with integrity.

What makes your company “intentionally different?” We control most processes internally. We own a technology company, which builds and maintains our benefit administration system, a billing reconciliation company, a third-party administration firm and an enrollment firm with salaried employees that do not receive commissions. In addition to that, we have an internal marketing department and compliance department with dedicated human resource consultants. Bringing all of these services under one roof provides our clients and their employees with first class service.
