The free, outdoor movie night in Little Rock continues tonight (Wednesday) with one of the more successful movies in recent years.
This week’s Movies in the Park showing at the Riverfront Park, “The Hunger Games,” brings you the story of Katniss Everdeen, the female representative from District 12 in the games, as she competes to the death against 23 other opponents. The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, as Katniss, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson.
The 2012 film is the first in a series based on books by Suzanne Collins. “The Hunger Games” trilogy by Collins includes “The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay.”
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” was released last year. The final book in the trilogy, “Mockingjay,” is set to be made into two feature-length films. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” is set for release this November, and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” is set for release November 2015.
The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 142 minutes. It starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Park, at 400 President Clinton Ave. Movie-goers can bring chairs and blankets for the lawn, or sit in the theater seats. Pets are allowed.
After tonight, there are two more opportunities to enjoy an outdoor movie with next week’s showing of “Friday Night Lights” and the screening of “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial” on July 30.
