Holly Jolly Giving: 4 Ways to Give Back This Season

While the holiday season is all about spreading cheer to friends and family, we can’t forget about our community members in need. Through volunteering, donating and spreading the word, there is something we can all do in the spirit of giving back. Here are a few ways you can brighten the spirits of those who need a helping hand.

1. Donate Food & Meals. Food donations and volunteers are needed in Little Rock year-round, but especially during cold months. Make the season sweeter by helping provide warm breakfast, lunch and dinner to residents at Our House, Home for Healing, the Little Rock Compassion Center or other refuge.

2. Send Holiday Cards. Share the joy by purchasing holiday cards from Arkansas Children’s Foundation and gifting them to loved ones or strangers. The Holiday Card Project features unique Christmas and seasonal cards designed by former and current ACH patients, and all proceeds benefit the hospital.

3. Give Gifts. Make a stranger smile this season with the blessing of gift-giving. The Salvation Army of Central Arkansas has more than 2,400 kids on the Angel Tree list who need help receiving gifts this year. Donate items through Dec. 11 by visiting salvationarmycaac.org.

Arkansas Hospice is hosting its second year of Elf Squad to help provide gifts to patients facing life-limiting illnesses. Find a tree and donate online at arkansashospice.org/elfsquad.

4. Recycle Your Tree. Once the holidays are over, donate your real Christmas tree to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. This gives your old tree new life as a fish habitat that offers dense coverage and hiding spaces. Donated trees are sent to bodies of water throughout the state and dropped in groups to promote fishing.
