The forecast is looking up, friends. Warmer weather is here and the public health predictions are almost — dare I say it? — sunny. So while spring has always been a time of renewal, this one feels extra special.

If you're ready to greet it with open arms like we are, grab your SPF and put these local activities on your calendar.

Play Ball

For a lot of folks, spring means baseball, which is why they've most likely saved the date for the Arkansas Travelers' season opener on April 11. But even if you're not a diehard fan of the sport, it's hard to scoff at the thought of cheering on the Travs at Dickey-Stephens Park with a hot dog in one hand and a local brew in the other.

Freshen Up

This is the month seasonal farmers markets begin to pop back onto the scene, and even the year-round ones that weathered the winter begin to see more colorful offerings. More interested in your own garden? Local nurseries are bursting at the seams with plants, pots, tools and know-how. Whichever route you choose, a stroll through the stands is definitely in order.

Party With a Purpose

As our Datebook will attest (the first time we've had a two-page calendar since spring 2020), Little Rock's nonprofits are ready to celebrate. The social agenda is chock-full of events benefiting great causes, many of which are taking advantage of the warmer temperatures, like Wild Wines on April 29-30 at the Little Rock Zoo and the Southern Spring Social (formerly the Seersucker Social) on April 14 benefiting the Old State House Museum's School Bus Fund.

Fest With the best of 'em

Yes, many springtime festivals are back on the rotation as well. And while fall still reigns supreme in the fest department, there's plenty to look forward to this season. I, for one, have my sights (and appetite) set on the Arkansas Italian Food and Wine Festival April 29 - May 1 and the always amazing Lanterns! cultural festival at Wildwood Park for the Arts April 21-23.

Take a Hike

We all know Arkansas is called The Natural State for a reason, but between deadlines, to-do lists and too many streaming services, spring is always a needed reminder to get out and enjoy it. Whether it's climbing Pinnacle, strolling Boyle or sipping your coffee in Allsopp, pick a park and take in the fresh air.
