Tax Free Weekend is here!

This Saturday and Sunday — beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 6 and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 7 — the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday. All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt.

Shoppers can buy certain clothing, accessories, electronics, school supplies, instructional materials and more free of state and local taxes. The official list of applicable items is available here, and includes things like:

  • Articles of clothing that cost less than $100 per item (coats, costumes, shoes, etc.)

  • Clothing accessories or equipment that costs less than $50 per item (cosmetics, jewelry, sunglasses, etc.)

  • Electronic devices (phones, laptops, printers)

  • School supplies (book bags, binders, notebooks, etc. This list can be tricky, so check out the link below.)

  • School art supplies (clay, paint, brushes, sketchpads, etc.)

Things that still count as taxable during the weekend include:

  • Protective equipment (including face masks)

  • Sports/recreational equipment

  • Sewing equipment and supplies

Pro tip: Many stores are hosting sales on top of these discounts to get you through the doors. Do a quick search before you head out to see which stores have the best deals, and remember to shop local when you can!
