The Museum of Discovery officially reopened to the public on June 23, gradually making more of its spaces available with precautions in place to keep visitors healthy. Now the MoD is even more committed to providing a safe, fun and educational experience for guests.

The MoD is following Arkansas Department of Health directives and has implemented additional policies for the safety of guests and staff. Here's what to expect when you show up:

  • Guests 10 and older must wear a mask

  • Limited crowd size

  • Additional hand sanitizing stations have been installed

  • Frequent cleanings with emphasis on frequently-touched surfaces

  • Daily sanitizing with an electrostatic sprayer that emits a hydrogen peroxide mist (multiple times a day for Room to Grow, the 6 and younger gallery)

During the museum’s closure, the team also placed a number of safety installations that include:

  • Hospital-grade air filters throughout the building
  • UV lights in all air ducts to destroy airborne viruses, bacteria and pollutants
  • Plexiglass shields at the admissions and Explore Store desks
  • NanoSeptic self-cleansing pads on all door handles

The family-friendly programming you know and love is back, though it may look a little differently. Don't miss out on these sessions:

  • Science demonstrations throughout the day

  • Wiggle Worms that teaches science to children 6 and under is held Wednesday-Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the great hall to allow for social distancing

  • Museum educators are bringing some of the animals on the floor for guests to meet from a distance

Like many of your local favorite institutions, the MoD is in great need of support from the community after being closed during what would have been its busiest time of the year. Here's how you can help:

  • Purchase a museum membership for yourself or as a gift. There are a number of membership options, including a family membership for $85 for five people. In addition to free admission to the Museum of Discovery for a year, members receive free or discounted admission to hundreds of museums across the country and discounts on summer camps, birthday parties and Explore Store purchases.

  • Make a donation in any amount on the MoD website.
