Look to the skies. The unique work of local artist Sulac is in the spotlight for Thea Foundation’s next Art Department opening on Friday, Aug. 2.
Sulac, whose work has been displayed at local galleries like Wildwood Park for the Arts, Gallery 26, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Cox Creative Center, will feature some of his latest work in an exhibit titled “Moon Flavor,” as well as debut his first children’s coloring book, “Looking for the Moon.”
“This collection of mixed media pieces is a series of animals (mostly),” Sulac says of the exhibit. “Often times, as a human drawing, let’s say, a duck, I find it difficult not to anthropomorphize this duck, even in a subtle way. This can sometimes come across as humorous, irreverent, pensive, subversive and maybe even cute. It amuses me to take things out of context visually or in some way distort reality, make a new reality, a more fun reality.”
An opening reception for “Moon Flavor” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Admission includes hors d’oeuvres, an open beer and wine bar and giveaways. The exhibit runs through Aug. 30.
The Thea Foundation gallery’s hours are 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and it is located at 401 Main St. in North Little Rock. For more information, call (501) 379-9512 or click here.
