For those of you who think vinyl "just sounds better," you're in luck.

A new record store called Control will open in Hillcrest on Saturday, June 22, at 2612 Kavanaugh Blvd. across from Proof Bar + Lounge with a grand opening event including live music from Memphis-based Hash Redactor, Joshua Asante and a handful of DJs. The event will last from noon-10 p.m. with giveaways and music galore.

Owners Wesley Howerton and Michael Shaeffer are longtime friends who decided to take their love of music and start sharing it here in Little Rock. Before opening Control, Howerton did marketing and project management for Barsuk Records in Seattle for nearly 14 years before relocating back to Little Rock. Shaeffer worked at a record store from age 16 to 24. Most recently, he was the visual sales director at Dillard's Park Plaza and teaches painting at the AAC's Museum School.

"We’ve both lived in other major cities and we missed having a local record store in our hometown," says Howerton, "a place where people can hang out, talk about music and meet people."

You may have seen Control at various pop-up events around town, including its debut at last year's PopUp in the Rock in Stifft Station, but this is its first independent brick-and-mortar presence.

Control will sell and spin new and used vinyl including quality, rare and iconic albums. The store will also offer new record players and other accessories, as well as YO! MTV Raps trading cards for sale.
