Welcome to the world of Miss Trunchbull, copious amounts of chocolate cake and a magical little girl named Matilda.
The Studio Theatre in Little Rock will debut "Matilda - The Musical" on June 6, and the production will run through June 23. The musical adaptation is based on the 1988 children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. The production made its Broadway premiere on April 11, 2013, and has since won five Tony Awards.
The production tells the story of Matilda (Berkeley Courtney Moore), a little girl with abundant wit and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her parents but her schoolteacher Miss Honey (Marcia Brown) takes her under her wing. The school's headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Duane Jackson) makes life difficult for all students at Matilda's school, but Matilda's magical powers just might be what it takes to topple The Trunchbull.
The musical's Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinee performances will begin at 2:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, go online or call (501) 374-2615.
