As we inch closer to the holiday season, our thoughts often turn to our fellow man and ways we can give back. One way to do that is with our annual Giving Guide, but when you've run out of ideas, that's when VolunteerAR steps in to point you in the right direction.

VolunteerAR is the office of volunteerism for the state of Arkansas, and its goal is "to engage citizens in meaningful volunteer roles, equip nonprofits in volunteer management capacity and elevate the role of volunteers as powerful change makers."

One of the ways this organization helps you plug in to your community is through its web portal, an online database that connects nonprofits and volunteers who share similar missions and passions.

According to VolunteerAR, citizens can search for volunteer opportunities by zip code, interest area, date or relevant skills, as well as find information on everything from AmeriCorps and youth opportunities to disaster relief and volunteer recognition programs.

The VolunteerAR website also highlights a handful of nonprofits who are in need of more volunteers for upcoming events, so keep an eye on their homepage for updates.

To learn more about which nonprofits need your help, visit the VolunteerAR website and follow along on Facebook.
