Arkansas Realtors® Association District Vice President Carolyn Cobb talks about on how Realtors in Arkansas are doing their bit through Hearts & Homes to help those who have lost their homes and businesses, and what you can do to help.
What is the purpose of Hearts & Homes?
Hearts & Homes of Arkansas Inc. is a charitable organization that was established in 2009 by Arkansas Realtors® Association to assist citizens across Arkansas who have lost their home, office, ability to pay for their home, and/or their livelihood through a natural disaster or other catastrophic event, by helping with mortgage or rental assistance.
How is the charity funded?
The charity is funded through contributions from the general public and members of our association.
What do you provide to the victims?
We provide rent and mortgage assistance in cases of a catastrophic event.
What drew you to get involved with Hearts & Homes?
As a very involved volunteer for Arkansas Realtors® Association and an advocate for homeownership, it was an easy fit to be passionate about Hearts & Homes. It provides an avenue to help people stay in their residence during an unexpected disaster. In 2014, when Arkansas experienced a classified E4 tornado, Hearts & Homes granted $68,464.94 to 90 victims and their families after the devastation in Maumelle, Mayflower, Conway, and Vilonia areas. Hearts & Homes is currently providing assistance to victims of the recent flood due to the levee breach in Northeast Arkansas.
How can people help?
Donations are the best way to help. Contributions to Hearts & Homes are deductible under Section 170 of the IRS Code. We would also like help spreading the word about Hearts & Homes for both grants and contributions. Please like us on Facebook to keep up with everything happening with Hearts & Homes.
