It was quite chilly (and rainy) during Sunday’s 2014 Little Rock Marathon’s 10K, half-marathon and marathon races, but that didn’t stop many from hitting the pavement.
Our photographer Mark Wagner was able to catch some of the big moments during the exciting event yesterday (March 2), including Mark Chepses’ fourth overall win and Leah Thorvilson’s fifth title in the women’s division.
Due to inclement weather, runners in the Little Rock Marathon and Half-Marathon were forced to take alternate routes to find their way to the finish line. At 8 a.m., more than 11,000 participants ran the course under damp and cold conditions, with temperatures dropping well into the 30s through the morning.

The 2014 family of finisher medals featured the “EPIC” super hero theme, as well as the race director’s “smooch.” The marathon medal was 8 ¼ inches, weighed more than 2 ½ pounds and featured a custom ribbon. It is the biggest medal the race has produced to date.
Mark Chepses captured his fourth title in the event’s men’s division Sunday. From West Des Moines, Iowa, Chepses came across the finish line first with a time of 2:25 minutes.
In the 2014 Little Rock Marathon, Leah Thorvilson won for the fifth time in eight races in the women’s division. From Little Rock, Thorvilson finished in 2:42 minutes.
