SUMMARY:SoMardi Gras Parade
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dive into the watery wonders of “SoMa Under the Sea” as SoMardi Gras returns to Little Rock’s South Main (SoMa) District. The 14th annual SoMardi Gras celebration is scheduled for February 10\, 2024.In 2024\, a new addition to the SoMardi Gras lineup is the SoMa-style ball on February 9. The ball will feature live music\, entertainment\, and a delectable dinner\, setting the stage for the grand celebration the following day.SoMardi Gras is a beloved tradition in the heart of Little Rock\, bringing the community together for a day of celebration\, music\, and family-friendly fun. The rain-or-shine parade is free and open to all.The parade will kick off at the corner of South Main and 24th streets\, starting at noon\, and proceed to 12th Street. From there\, the festivities will transition into a SoMa block party\, keeping the good times rolling until 5 p.m.The highlight of SoMardi Gras has always been the creative and colorful floats\, and this year is no exception. SoMa is calling for “krewes” to enter\, whether they are a group of friends\, a church\, school\, social club\, or workplace. For non-profit organizations looking to participate\, the SoMardi Gras organizers will match them with corporate sponsors to help cover the costs to make a float. But the excitement doesn’t stop with the parade. The 11th Annual Little Rock Beard and Mustache Contest follows the parade. This unique contest features categories for Best Natural Beard Over 6 Inches\, Best Natural Beard Under 6 Inches\, Best Mustache\, Best Groomed Beard\, Most Original Beard\, and Best DIY Crafted Beard. After the Beard Contest\, the $500 first-place and $250 second-place cash prize float winners will be announced.“We are thrilled to welcome folks to SoMardi Gras 2024\, and we’re hoping that people get truly creative with their floats. We invite more businesses to sponsor krewes\, as this partnership not only fosters innovative floats but also supports the community in a meaningful way\, “ says SoMa 501 Executive Director Elizabeth Michael. “The idea of a business sponsoring a non-profit makes a lot of sense because it would mean a lot for the non-profit to get the cash prize. It’s not just about the competition; it’s a fun team-building exercise for all involved\, strengthening the bonds within our vibrant community.”Parade float and vendor registration are open through Monday\, February 5. The parade is SoMa 501’s biggest fundraiser of the year and enables its mission to drive economic development\, historic integrity\, and quality of life for those living in and visiting the neighborhood. For more information\, to register a krewe\, float or as a vendor\, or volunteer\, please visit https://www.somalittlerock.com/somardigras.
