SUMMARY:Festival Gems: The Little Rock Film Festival Revisited\, Vol. 1 presented by Made in Arkansas
DESCRIPTION:Join the Made in Arkansas Film Festival for a monthly night of screenings in the CALS Ron Robinson Theater! \nJoin us on August 8th for a special homage to the Little Rock Film Festival (LRFF)\, celebrating the vibrant Arkansas film scene. We’ll be screening a variety of films that made a significant impact on local filmmakers and audiences alike. \nThe LRFF was an award-winning showcase festival for Arkansas filmmakers\, providing a unique platform for creative voices from 2007 until its conclusion in 2015. Founded by brothers Brent and Craig Renaud along with Jamie Moses and Owen Brainard\, the festival fostered a sense of community and inclusion\, allowing filmmakers to connect with industry peers and audiences. With a filmmaker pass\, attendees gained access to influential figures whose films had graced prestigious festivals such as Tribeca\, South by Southwest\, and Sundance. The LRFF inspired a new generation of Arkansas filmmakers\, and its profound influence on Arkansas film continues to this day. \nFor just $5\, you can enjoy these impactful films and hear from the filmmakers themselves as they share their experiences and discuss the profound influence the festival had on their careers. Don’t miss this chance to relive the legacy of the Little Rock Film Festival and celebrate the enduring spirit of Arkansas cinema. \n7-8 \nThe Dealer’s Tale – 18:05 – Directed by Justin Nickels – 2015\nA modern retelling of Chaucer’s ‘Pardoner’s Tale.’ Two hitmen go on the search for Death and a mysterious boy helps them find him. \nRapture Us – 18:00 – Directed by Levi Agee – 2015\nRapture Us is about a devout Christian named Toby who believes all the world’s Christians but himself were taken up into heaven after the disappearance of his mother. SUMMARY:"Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse" presented by Exhibition on Screen
DESCRIPTION:Long considered spaces for expressing color\, light and atmosphere\, the garden has occupied the creative minds of some of the world’s greatest artists. \nClaude Monet was an avid horticulturist and arguably the most important painter of gardens in the history of art\, but he was not alone. Great artists like Van Gogh\, Bonnard\, Sorolla\, Sargent\, Pissarro and Matisse all saw the garden as a powerful subject for their art. These great artists\, along with many other famous names\, feature in an innovative and extensive exhibition from the Royal Academy of Art\, London. \nFrom the exhibition walls to the wonder and beauty of artists’ gardens like Giverny and Seebüll\, the film takes a magical and widely travelled journey to discover how different contemporaries of Monet built and cultivated modern gardens to explore expressive motifs\, abstract color\, decorative design and utopian ideas. Guided by passionate curators\, artists and garden enthusiasts\, this remarkable collection of Impressionists\, Post-Impressionists\, and avant-garde artists of the early twentieth century will reveal the rise of the modern garden in popular culture and the public’s enduring fascination with gardens today. Long considered spaces for expressing color\, light and atmosphere\, the garden has occupied the creative minds of some of the world’s greatest artists. As Monet said\, ‘Apart from painting and gardening\, I’m no good at anything’. For lovers of art and/or lovers of gardens\, this is an ideal film. \nImportant Information: \nFilm Start Time: Doors open at 3:00pm\, and Exhibition on Screen’s “Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse” will begin promptly at 4:00pm. As our films are general admission seating\, please be sure to arrive early to secure your seat.
