In case you haven’t noticed, it’s rained a lot lately. And while we’ve come out on the other side with some sunny winter weather, a pretty big mess is left in the wake.
The Arkansas River Trail is in rough shape. If you saw the leftovers from the flooding last spring, you know how bad it can be, and that the trails can’t reopen until they’re cleared of not just water, but debris as well.
Recent flooding has lead to the closure of the north side of Big Dam Bridge and the Arkansas River Trail between Big Rock Quarry and Burns Park in North Little Rock; as well as the north side of Two Rivers Park Bridge, Two Rivers Park near the restrooms and Rebsamen Park Golf Course.
That’s a lot of cleaning up to do.
The machinery currently used to do the job simply isn’t cutting it in terms of effort and man-hours spent. To remedy this, North Little Rock Parks and Recreation is currently raising funds to purchase a trail sweeper that will not only speed up the recovery process, but also for routine cleanings.
If you’re interested in helping the cause, you can mail donations to the Arkansas River Trail Foundation, P.O. Box 242591, Little Rock, AR 72223; or you can donate online here.
The Arkansas River Trail Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporate volunteer support organization, and donations are tax-deductible.
