CUE THE CHANGES
There’s a lot happening behind the scenes at the Argenta Community Theater. The ACT recently announced it has a new annex space in the works that will house ACTing UP, a theater summer camp for kids, as well as occasional public shows, including dinner theater performances. The theater also released its 2022-2023 season lineup, which includes hit shows like “The Producers,” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” and “White Christmas.”
In other ACT news, Laura Grimes is stepping down as executive director after four years, and Assistant Director Sydney Wolfe will serve as interim director.
ON A ROLL
UAMS teamed up with the Arkansas Rural Health Partnership and Community Health Centers of Arkansas to launch the Health Careers Workforce Mobile Unit, a new medical education facility on wheels designed to inform students across the state about health care career opportunities.
The tech-filled unit features an exam room, two blood draw rooms and career counselors both on-site and connected virtually. The hope is this outreach will help bridge the health care gap in Arkansas, particularly in vulnerable communities.
“We are proud of this program because we recognize that by introducing health care career opportunities to individuals in rural communities, it may also get them excited about the possibilities that lie ahead,” says Dr. Richard Turnage, vice chancellor for UAMS Regional Campuses. “When programs like this invest in the future of students, everyone benefits.”
THIS OLD HOUSE
Curran Hall recently marked its 20th anniversary as the official Little Rock Visitor Information Center. Managed and operated by the Quapaw Quarter Association, the home was constructed in 1842 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Curran Hall’s unique Southern frontier take on the Greek Revival style, as well as its stunning Marjem Ward Jackson Historic Garden, make it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
