“Common Threads” is the new four-part exhibit coming to the Esse Purse Museum. The exhibit is a celebration of the “common feminine threads of creation, inspiration, sewing and family tradition that tie generations together.”
It all kicks off opening day, March 7, with refreshments and the women behind the art and collections. Visitors can also bring in a button as part of a communal art project.
“Common Threads” comprises the mini-exhibits of “Circles of Life,” the medallions made by Pamela Nelson out of her mother’s and grandmother’s jewelry; “Inspiration is 87% Perspiration,” the steel wire replicas of the sewing machines that Chelsye Mae’s grandmother used to support her family; “Sew Much Fun,” the various sewing trinkets gathered by Donna Ward; and “The Art of the Button,” the beautiful button collection of Florine Thomason.
The Esse Purse Museum is open 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. “Common Threads” will be on display until May 31.
