Nelson Mandela Exhibit Coming to Clinton Center

Two new exhibits are coming to the Clinton Presidential Center, and they’re both dedicated to the cultural history of Africa.

First up is Art of Africa: One Continent, Limitless Vision, which opens on Saturday, Aug. 26. The exhibit features an array of items from Africa that explore the shapes, colors and textures of the culture — everything from jewelry to sculptures to paintings. Pieces come from the Clinton Presidential Center’s archives as well as from former President Bill Clinton’s personal collection.

In conjunction with Art of Africa, another exhibit titled Mandela: The Journey to Ubuntu follows the life of the iconic apartheid fighter and eventual president. Guests will see his story unfold through the images of Nelson Mandela Foundation-commissioned photographer Matthew Willman, and can experience a recreation of the tiny prison cell Mandela occupied for 18 of his 27 years in captivity.

These temporary installations will be on display through Feb. 19.
