Museum of Discovery Marks 90th Year With New History Exhibit

Ah, science. It only gets better with age. And as the Museum of Discovery marks its 90th anniversary, it’s celebrating this fine age with a new exhibit detailing its own full history.

The permanent exhibit will cover everything from the MoD’s first days as the Museum of Natural History and Antiquities in 1927 at Second and Main, to its time in Little Rock City Hall, to a new identity as the Arkansas Museum of Science and History, to its current name and space in the River Market.

“Many if not most of the tens of thousands of visitors we welcome each year to the Museum of Discovery likely don’t know the history of Arkansas’s oldest museum, and we’re thrilled to be able to tell that long story,” museum CEO Kelley Bass said. “We are very proud to carry on the legacy Bernie Babcock established 90 years ago, and I think all of us at the museum have enjoyed learning more about our rich past as this exhibit has been developed.”

The MoD’s mission is “to ignite a passion for science, technology and math in a dynamic, interactive environment,” a mission that has led to amazing exhibits, a loyal fanbase and even national TV.

This new exhibit will be housed on the top floor of the MoD and will be unveiled to the public on Friday, Jan. 20.

The MoD is located at 500 President Clinton Ave. Hours of operation are 9 p.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit their website or call (501) 396-7050.
