Movie Time: 4 Special Flick Screenings to Check Out This Week

If you’re looking to get out later this week after-hours, here is one thing you can do: catch a movie. Little Rock and North Little Rock have four special film screenings– one sneak preview, one Oscar contender, one Oscar winner and one in-depth documentary– all showing Thursday and Friday (Feb. 20-21).

Here is look at the screenings:

Laman Library, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock

Just in time for The Rep’s revival of “Les Miserables,” starting March 5, the North Little Rock library will be screening the newest film adaptation of the production, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, as part of the Between Stage and Screen program that screen films in conjunction with The Rep’s production schedule. The story follows convict Jean Valjean, who is on the run. Hunted relentlessly by the policeman Javert for breaking his parole, he must leave his past behind and keep his vow to raise the young orphaned Cosette. But with revolution in the air and Javert closing in, Jean Valjean has no choice but to fight for his life and sacrifice everything to protect the people he loves. The screening starts at 6 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 20). Prior to the screening of each film, one or more members of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s artistic team will lead a brief discussion on the upcoming show, offer behind-the-curtain insights and host an audience Q&A. Admission is free. Get more information here.

It follows the story of these Pacific warriors who, having never won an official FIFA game, are on a mission to rewrite the history books. This screening is part of the Previews Subscription Series where members pay a monthly fee, save 45-60 percent over individual ticket prices, and are guaranteed ticket(s) to sneak-peek screenings of four new films each month. The film starts at 7 p.m. Thursday and tickets can be purchased here.
