Little Rock-based painter Michael Shaeffer is on a mission to celebrate beauty in our world, and his fabulous findings are showcased in the next installment of Thea Foundation’s The Art Department.
At the quarterly series meeting on Friday, Feb. 3, Shaeffer’s exhibition titled “The Thrill of It All” will highlight the artistry and theatricality of a band of local drag performers. He also aims to continue the series by depicting the beauty in more “underground communities.”
“Contemporary artists I think fall into two categories; ones who make the world they want, and those who comment on the world there is,” Shaeffer said. “I feel like I have always been the latter. As far back as I can remember, my work has been an attempt to slow down the perpetual flow of information that surrounds us all — a constant investigation of what ‘beauty’ in our world looks like.”
The reception kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and is $10 at the door. That includes food, an open beer and wine bar and the chance to win an original work by Shaeffer.
The Thea Foundation gallery’s hours are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and is located at 401 Main St. in North Little Rock. For more information, call (501) 379-9512 or visit the Facebook event page.
