Men on a Mission 2026: Trent D. Murchison

Trent D. Murchison
Partner & Wealth Advisor, Edward Jones

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
Being named to the 2025 Forbes Best-in-State Next-Gen Wealth Advisors helped solidify the importance and effectiveness of the financial planning process utilized within my practice.

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
So much of my career is relationship-driven. I’ve always had a knack for numbers. Advice can make complete financial sense on paper, but if you can’t inspire a client to act, then it’s meaningless.

ONE THING I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT MY COMPANY
We are, by structure, a partnership. It completely changes who we are as a firm. We do not need to worry about stock performance or investor sentiment, allowing us to focus solely on what matters most to the client.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
“Be doggedly persistent, but patient.” – Gary Geissler. It takes faith, discipline and patience to be successful. Often the choices we make and work we do each day will not bear fruit for weeks, months or even years.

NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
First Tee Central Arkansas. Great organization teaching kids life skills of perseverance and patience. The future is our youth.

A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
My career creates meaningful and personal relationships, which means often walking through life challenges with clients — long-term illnesses, death, divorce, career changes. At times, our meetings can feel more like a therapy session focusing on tough moments rather than financial conversations.

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
Installed new construction HVAC rough-ins during high school summers. Taught me persistence and work ethic by enduring the summer heat of south Louisiana. More importantly, it taught me the value of higher education studies to reach a high-quality career.

HOW I UNPLUG AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK
Playing ball and swimming with my two boys, enjoying family dinner and watching the sunset with my wife.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
The relationship I share with my clients is unique and often quite personal. It never gets easier when a client passes away.

LESSON I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
Can’t be all things to everyone.
