Men on a Mission 2024: Sam Makhoul, M.D.

Sam Makhoul, M.D.
Medical Director of Clinical Research, CARTI

WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
It is incredibly rewarding to have the opportunity to help patients while advancing scientific knowledge alongside my colleagues and clinical research team members.

LESSON I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
Early in my career, I struggled with giving negative feedback to my team. However, after some difficult experiences, I learned that firmness and principles are not incompatible with empathy and kindness.

ONE THING I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT MY COMPANY
As a nonprofit, we are dedicated to reinvesting in patient services, benefiting tens of thousands of Arkansans every year.

A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
My father was a gifted artist and taught me drawing and oil painting. Though I stopped painting when I entered medical school, the creative skills have remained, especially as a teacher and professor in the college of medicine.
