Men on a Mission 2023: Tim Staley

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
It’s not about you. Always focus on the “true need” behind the “stated need” of people and circumstances. Addressing the true needs of people and circumstances helps ensure you’re always adding value to a relationship.

WHAT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED
Helping and serving others in a way that pays forward the blessings I have received over my life and career. That is the definition of satisfaction and success for me.

WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
The ability to work with great people and help our customers with innovative and creative solutions. We are always challenging the status quo, and I enjoy both the challenge and the ability to help people in unique ways.

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
I was fortunate early in my career to see how my training and background could make a difference through innovation and improving customer operations. I discovered my passion was to help people with their unique technical challenges.

A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
I didn’t enjoy accounting very much in college and was hoping an engineering career would keep me from having to develop accounting skills. This was a naïve perspective since it’s a required skill for any business leader.

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
Starting my own business. Becoming a business owner teaches accountability to teammates, their families, customers and the community. Managing the risk and stress of business ownership helps build unique character and perspective. The experience shaped my career.

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
I was an engineering intern at a local hospital where I worked hands-on with the equipment I would later design. I learned the real experts of my trade are the technicians, plumbers and electricians who know how to make these systems work.

NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
Aaron Meals serves the hungry and homeless in central Arkansas. They feed the hearts and souls of our community, providing quality food by meeting people where they are. They ensure 100% of donations go to fund their core mission.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
Maintaining a work/life balance. I enjoy what I do and have always struggled with the priorities between faith, family, work and passion. They seem to routinely overlap, which I believe confirms their synergistic nature of my created purpose.

ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
Faith is instrumental in helping maintain my mental health and includes prayer, study and mission. It helps me stay focused on the important things in life and avoid getting lost in the noise life can create.

ONE THING I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT MY COMPANY
We are making a difference for the customers we serve. We relentlessly innovate to find solutions to their chronic problems. We are lowering the cost of health care and higher education for the communities we serve.

THE FIRST THING I DO TO COURSE CORRECT WHEN I HIT A WALL
The first thing I try to do is take a break and clear my mind, focus and pray. Hopefully, this helps provide a fresh perspective. Then I seek guidance and experience from mentors, coaching, friends and family.

LESSON I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
Being proactive regarding crucial conversations with employees and staff provides clarity and builds trust with teammates. Delaying these conversations is not fair to the employee and builds walls instead of trust.
