Men on a Mission 2023: Russ Martin

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
I worked for Jack Clark doing lawn maintenance for several years in high school. Not only did I learn that the workday actually started before 8:00 a.m., but I also experienced the gratification of transforming someone’s yard after we were through.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
Stewardship! We are entrusted with our customers’ deposits, responsible for helping our borrowers reach their goals and accountable to our regulators, board of directors, shareholders and fellow bankers.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
Character builds trust and trust builds leadership.

LESSON I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
All of the work is never done. As I started in banking, I thought I should leave the office with everything being finished, but there is always something else to do! I should have accepted that fact long ago.

ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
Accept that fact I can’t do it all by myself and that I’m made for community. I need a savior. I need my family. I need my bank team. I need my friends.
