BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
Working alongside my father, David Gill. We worked well together as each of us encouraged the creativity in the other. I became confident in my own leadership as I saw how a spark of an idea could quickly become reality.
MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
I worked for the forest service in high school. I mostly learned how to weed-eat and clean bathrooms, but I also fell in love with the Ouachita Forest and still think it is an underrated natural area to explore.
NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
Of course Ferncliff! Specifically, our Disaster Assistance Center which began operating in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. The DAC has received, inspected and distributed over one million pounds of disaster kits to communities in need, including Little Rock this past spring.
WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
First the people: The Ferncliff family is full of the kindest, most generous folks. And also the feeling that I am called to work for an organization that does what it can to respond to the needs of the world today.
BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
Dealing with the unique unforeseen challenges that come up each day. Operating a place that has 30-plus buildings and serves thousands of kids and adults each season, there’s always something popping up that needs fixing or attention.
ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
Trail running. Being in the forest and moving my body re-energizes me. The simplicity of moving from point A to point B makes me feel accomplished and gives me confidence in other areas of my life too.
