Men on a Mission 2023: Darrell Walker

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
My best career moment so far was winning the 1993 NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls. It was extra special playing for my hometown of Chicago and bringing the championship home.

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
Coaching was never a top career option. Isiah Thomas, part owner of the Raptors, called me to be an assistant coach in the NBA. He talked me into it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
My first job was a paperboy in the South Side projects of Chicago. This job taught me that if you are not on time for work, you will not get paid.

WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
The development of players both on and off the court for life motivates me every day. My head coach at Arkansas, Eddie Sutton, was more than a coach to me. I am trying to do the same for my players.

WHAT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED
The fear of losing keeps me motivated. It motivates me every day to be prepared for the craft of coaching. It keeps me on my toes.
