Men on a Mission 2022: Ron Witherspoon

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
This one! Coming back to Little Rock

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
I can’t tell you that I’ve had that “aha!” moment. I never went to college thinking I’m going to work for a bank. At the end of day, I wanted to go to work for a really good company. Arvest is known for their service and their tremendous reputation. I just wanted to work for a great company. The job isn’t the passion, Arvest is the passion.

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
I grew up on a cattle ranch in northeast Oklahoma. It was a lot of hard work and early mornings and long days because those cows aren’t going to feed themselves. Early in the morning you get up and go take care of all those chores, and then after school you’re doing the same thing. It taught me responsibility and commitment. It was training for the real world!

ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
Definitely a focus on faith, family and friends. Taking time for myself can be a challenge because my calendar is always full, but I make sure to take some time for golf and I’m looking forward to getting my bike back out to enjoy the River Trail.

A NONPROFIT i WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
United Way. I don’t know how many partner agencies they have in Little Rock, but the thing that a lot of folks don’t understand is that when you’re giving your money, whether that’s a dollar or a number with zeroes and commas they’re taking that and splitting it up among many partner agencies – agencies they vet for you so you know your money is going to an organization in good standing.
