Men on a Mission 2022: Jermall D. Wright

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
Led the turnaround process of schools in Denver Public Schools focusing on early literacy and social and emotional learning. Seventy-five percent of schools improved at least two performance tiers and 100% of schools were removed from the state’s intervention list.

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
It was evident from my earliest experiences in my community, church and school that I was destined to be an educator. I’ve been teaching kids since I was in the sixth grade. It is the only career I’ve ever pursued.

ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
I do not read or internalize negative comments on social media on any post where I may be mentioned or featured.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
You will always reap what you sow. I aim to always make ethically-based decisions and to always treat people with dignity and respect. I believe “bad things” will happen to me if I do “bad things” to other people.

THE FIRST THING I DO TO COURSE CORRECT WHEN I HIT A WALL
Pause/stop, reflect, pray, seek counsel, draft a new plan, obtain feedback on the new plan and adjust accordingly, execute the new plan, monitor outcomes, adjust if necessary and repeat.
