Being part of the team that launched our Medicaid dental program, Delta Dental Smiles, was an amazing journey and helped me grow as a leader. The relationships built with my colleagues were very meaningful and an experience I’ll never forget.
MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
When I was 15, I washed dishes at Jimmy’s Cafe in my hometown of Greenbrier, AR. Between school, basketball practice and work, I learned quickly I’d have to be extremely committed if I wanted to accomplish my goals in life.
A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
Growing up my report cards always noted “talks too much.” I thought business was strategy, numbers and charts. I’ve learned it’s not, most important is being able to connect with people. Who knew talking would be a useful skill!
WHAT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED
The people. We have some of the most amazing people working at Delta Dental of Arkansas. They believe in our mission. They live it in their work, and they believe in each other. They make me a better person.
BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. I was 5 months into my current role when we sent employees to work from home. It’s presented numerous challenges, but our teams have persevered and we’re a stronger, better company as a result.
