MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
Unofficially it was doing yard work at home while growing up. It helped set the stage for a hard work ethic that continues to this day.
WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
Taking care of the patient. I’ve had family who were marginalized or ignored by people in the medical field. I do my best to treat a patient the way my family would’ve wanted to be treated.
A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
Growing up playing video games has helped me tremendously with my visual-spatial skills while doing surgical procedures. It makes my work feel second nature and will mirror the technology as it continues to improve.
WHAT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED
My family: past, present and future. I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors and try to honor them while also carving a path forward.
BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
“It don’t cost you nothing to be nice.” -My great-uncle Ed Adams. He did not have a formal education and was small in stature, but to me he was a giant, wise and humble man.
