Memorial Weekend To-Do List: 7 Things to Do

A three-day weekend is almost here! If you’re looking to stick around Little Rock, there are plenty of things you can get into that are super fun, but pretty low-key. Here is our roundup.

Here is a rundown of things you can do:

Take in a show at Riverfest: In case you haven’t heard, Riverfest is taking center stage in downtown Little Rock with live performances by CeeLo, The Fray, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Salt-n-Pepa, Hank Williams Jr. and more all weekend long (Friday-Sunday). For a little extra fun, check out Flowing on the River; the Rock-N-Ride Poker Run, which will benefit the Wounded Warriors Organization; or the Rock-N-Stroll 5K Fun Run. The First Security Bank Fireworks Show will also be held at 9 p.m. Sunday (May 25) prior to headline acts. Check out our full guide here for everything you need to know!

Play outside at Pinnacle Mountain State Park: The entire holiday weekend will feature a few fun events for the family. This includes a spring kayak float and spring canoe float on the Little Maumelle River, in addition to a Woodpecker Homes Hike at Kingfisher Trailhead and a Memorial Day Base Trail Trek. See more fun events here.

Watch the Arkansas Travelers take on San Antonio Missions: Batter up! Watch the Travs take on the San Antonio Missions Saturday-Monday (May 24-26) at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Saturday game starts at 7:10 p.m., while the Sunday game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Monday game starts at 2:10 p.m. Special Sunday promotions include $10 Family Sunday where you can bring your church bulletin to the box office and get the entire family admission for just $10; Operation Military Appreciation Sunday– all members of the military will receive $3 discount if a valid military ID is presented at the box office; and a chance to stick around after the game and watch the Memorial Day fireworks from Riverfest! For tickets and more information visit www.Travs.com.
Get your art (and history!) fix at a museum: Want to keep things indoors this weekend? Several exhibits have opened up this month or are planning to open up Saturday (May 24). Now on exhibit is the “53rd Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition” at Arkansas Arts Center, “Different Spokes” at the Old State House Museum and “Artwork of Dale Chihuly” at Clinton Presidential Center. On Saturday, stop by the Museum of Discovery when they open their latest exhibit, the “Mayan Medallion“! Here’s the cool part: the Museum of Discovery and Clinton Presidential Center are offering visitors special deals on Memorial Day Weekend. Both major River Market attractions will offer $5 admission all weekend– Friday-Monday for the Clinton Center and Saturday-Monday for the museum, which will be closed Friday (May 23). Get more info about all of these fun exhibits here!
Stock up on goodies at the farmers market: If you’re looking for some local, farm-fresh goods to cook up for your special Memorial Day cookout, stop by one of the farmers markets on Saturday–  the Hillcrest Farmers Market (7 a.m.-12 p.m.) and the Argenta Farmers Market (7 a.m.-12 p.m.)– or the Bernice Gardens Farmers Market from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday. The Little Rock Farmers Market will be closed because of Riverfest.

Enjoy a Memorial Day Picnic and Fireworks at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum: On Sunday (May 25), this will be a great place to watch the Riverfest fireworks (on the deck of the USS Razorback submarine). There will be a picnic dinner of hot dogs, hamburgers, side dishes and soft drinks. The party will get started at about 6 p.m. Stick around and check out the cool exhibits on display at the museum that feature cool historical maritime pieces and other interesting things! Tickets are $25 for the event. Get more information and purchase tickets here.

Visit the Little Rock Zoo: The Arkansas Chapter of AT&T Veterans will host a special event at the Little Rock Zoo on Memorial Day (May 26) to honor military men and women.  All current and veteran military members and their families will receive $2 off regular admission prices and free parking with a valid military ID. Members of the Arkansas AT&T Veterans group will be on hand to accept donations to help veterans in the local community. All adult zoo visitors are invited to participate in a free drawing to be held at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day (May 26). The first prize is an AT&T smartphone and second prize is a $50 Walmart gift card. Click here for more information on AT&T Veterans.

Have a great holiday weekend!
