Back in 1996, Dan O’Brien wowed the world by taking home the decathlon gold medal, making him the first American to do so in 20 years. And this weekend, O’Brien is coming to Little Rock.
Just in case you need a refresher, the decathlon is an event compiled of 10 track and field events spread out over two days. We’re talking 100-meter dash, running long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter run,110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500-meter run.
So what brings the mega-athlete to our city? On Friday, July 29, the Clinton Presidential Center will host O’Brien for a free public program where he will tell his amazing story of personal achievements that carried him to multiple world championship titles. To RSVP for this program, click here or call (501) 748-0425.
O’Brien will also lead a free track and field day for kids age 6-11 at the center on Saturday, July 30, where they will participate in children’s hurdles, a javelin throw simulation, agility exercises, long jump activities, sprint races and balance drills.
So light the proverbial torch, friends. Learn more about the Clinton Presidential Center on their website and get info on the center’s new exhibit “American Champions: The Quest for Olympic Glory” by clicking here.
