M2 Gallery Launches New Biennial Show ‘M2 EXP’ This Week

Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed a flurry of activity (and window coverings) at M2 Gallery as the SoMa space prepares for the reveal of “the biggest, most-involved show we’ve ever held.”

Opening this Friday, Sept. 23, “M2 EXP: The M2 Experience” is the brainchild of gallery owners Ashley and Mac Murphy, who wanted to give visitors a show they hadn’t seen before.

“We wanted to start doing something different, something unexpected, something more than a typical art show/gallery opening,” Mac says.

The gallery will be “transformed” with installations and multimedia pieces featuring the work of artists like Milkdadd, Bryan Frazier, Michael Shaeffer, Crystal C. Mercer, William Goodman, Lisa Krannichfeld, Dusty Domino, Sabine Danze and many more, including the debut of Ashley’s latest series “Pills,” a mix of photography, paint and, yes, pills.

“From top to bottom, we are going to create an exceptionally-curated show and experience,” Mac says, noting that “M2 EXP” will return as a biennial occurrence.

“M2 EXP” is free and open to the public. You can see it yourself from 6-9 p.m., then head to South on Main for the after party.
