Loblolly Creamery Celebrates 10 Years on Friday

Loblolly Creamery is celebrating 10 years of churning ice cream with their first ever flavor.

Loblolly Creamery churned its first batch of ice cream on Nov. 5, 2011, for the first Arkansas Cornbread Festival. They made buttermilk ice cream for their nontraditional cornbread entry: a caramel polenta cornbread with berry compote and buttermilk ice cream. Of course, they won their category that day.

In April 2012, Sally Mengel and her team opened The Soda Fountain at The Green Corner Store and operated out of there until June 2017. Then, they moved next door where they now have their Scoop Shop in SoMa with over 24 house-made ice creams, sorbets and non-dairy ice creams.

This Friday, Loblolly Creamery will be selling caramel cornbread buttermilk shakes, special merch items, hosting giveaways on social media and donating 10% of sales to Harmony Health Clinic.

“It is amazing to reflect over the 10 years and how fast it has gone by,” Mengel said. “We are excited to see what another 10 years will bring.”
