Little Rock Zoo Hosts Birthday Bash for Carousel Centennial

A landmark within a landmark is marking a major milestone this month, and it plans to celebrate in style.

The Little Rock Zoo will host a big birthday bash as its Over-the-Jumps Carousel turns 100 years old on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4-8 p.m.

The event is packed with family-friendly fun like games, hands-on activities and a special exhibit detailing the history of the carousel. Visitors can also expect lots of food and drinks, live music from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and free carousel rides throughout the night.

The zoo is also asking previous guests to share their memories of the carousel by sending photos and stories to zoo100@littlerock.gov.

According to the zoo, the antique wooden ride is the only fully operational merry-go-round of its kind in the world and made its first Natural State appearance at the 1924 Arkansas State Fair.
