Little Rock Weekend Guide: Sept. 26-29

Fall is here and with it comes a full weekend of concerts, fundraisers and festivals. Let’s get into it.

 

Thursday, Sept. 26

Driving Away Hunger // Potluck Food Rescue’s signature event is back on the menu in the East Village neighborhood. The annual fundraising bash will feature bites from your favorite local restaurants, live music and auctions to raise funds for Potluck’s mission. The delicious fun kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Eastside Scrapyard. Learn more here.

Miracle League Double Header // The Miracle League of Arkansas is hosting a fundraising event at The Hall from 6:30-10 p.m. The 2023 Arkansas Country Music Awards Vocal Group of the Year Midnight South will provide live music throughout the evening, and there will be silent and live auctions and great food and drinks. Rooftop Cinema: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” at Sixth & Scott // Fall weather is the perfect time to watch a movie outdoors. The Rooftop Cinema series is back again this Thursday with everyone’s favorite turtle superheroes. Stone’s Throw will serve beer and water so all you need to bring are chairs and blankets. Showtime is at sunset, or about 7:30 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Friday, Sept. 27

Argenta Vibe Music Series: John Fullbright // Put on your dancing shoes! Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter John Fullbright is taking the Argenta Plaza stage for a free community concert at 8 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from local vendors and Argenta restaurants. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the opening act And Then Came Humans take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Saturday, Sept. 28

Fall Little Rock Recycles Day // The Little Rock Zoo’s Sustainability Office is teaming up with Keep Little Rock Beautiful for a free fall drive-thru recycling event. All you have to do is bring your recyclables (plastic bottles and jugs, cardboard, paper, aluminum, plastic bags, glass, eWaste, etc.) to the East parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon. Learn more here.

Camp’toberfest // Camp Taco is joining in on the festive fall fun with an all day, family-friendly celebration of Oktoberfest Märzen, The Hunter. Wear your Bavarian best for a chance to win a $100 Camp Taco card plus a Lost 40 prize package and more. The Hunter will be served up in draft pints for $4 or in a souvenir stein for $12. Koe Wetzel with Treaty Oak Revival & Tanner Usrey // Live music in the metro continues this weekend with a three act concert at the First Security Amphitheater. The show takes place at 7 p.m., so be sure to arrive with plenty of time for parking. Space on the lawn may be limited, but blankets and small stadium seats are allowed. Learn more here.

Big Dam Bridge 100 // Central Arkansas’ favorite annual cycling event is back and bigger than ever this weekend. With several routes ranging from 15-105 miles and cyclists participating from all across the country, the BDB 100 will be a spectacular sight for everyone. Food and drinks will await riders at the finish line and there will also be food trucks to fuel spectators. Learn more here.

Little Rocktoberfest // The beer events keep on coming. Next up is the 2024 Little Rocktoberfest presented by the Central Arkansas Fermenters from 5-9 p.m. at the Rusty Tractor Vineyards. Sample commercial beers from across the world, enjoy new flavors from Arkansas craft breweries or try a one-of-a-kind brew from a local homebrewer. Fassler Hall will be providing bratwurst dinners and the proceeds from the event will support Arkansas Casting for Recovery. Learn more here.

Thursday – Saturday, Sept. 26-28

“Gridiron” at The Rep // The “Gridiron” show is a 108-year-old tradition where well-known locals perform in a satirical musical spoofing political figures and current events. It’s wild, fun and always a great time. Thursday and Friday showtimes are at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s showtime is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 each. Learn more here.

Thursday – Sunday, Sept. 26-29

Six Bridges Book Festival // Central Arkansas Library System’s Six Bridges Book Festival is in full swing and it’s not taking any breaks this weekend. Thursday’s lineup includes award-winning playwright and author of “The Travelers” Regina Porter, New York Times bestselling illustrator Vanessa Brantley-Newton, authors Carrie Sun and Jasmin Graham and authors Nate Powell and Sally Nixon. The Six Bridges Festival Kickoff Party will take place on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ron Robinson Theater. Saturday’s festivities include a cooking workshop with Anne Byrn, parenting tips from authors Gwenna Laithland and Jess H. Gutierrez, plus so much more. Learn more here.

Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 28 & 29

Aaron Diehl Plays Gershwin with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra // See the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra directed by conductor Geoffrey Robson play on stage with pianist Aaron Diehl. The concert, performed at the Robinson Center, will include Gershwin’s “Piano Concerto in F” and “Cuban Overture.” It will also feature Anna Clyne’s “Masquerade” and Carlos Simon’s “Graffiti.” Learn more here.
