It’s been 27 years since Robin Dean first stepped up to volunteer for the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Decades of service and three cancer diagnoses later, she continues to assist UAMS by selling Partners Cards each year.
Along with your 13 years as coordinator of the Cancer Support Center at the Family Home, what impact has the Cancer Institute had on your life?
The Cancer Institute has been at the forefront of my life for the past 27 years providing me with purpose, friendships, support and medical treatment after my first breast cancer diagnosis in 2009.In 2012, I received a different breast cancer diagnosis and had a bilateral mastectomy. In 2016 and 17, the cancer metastasized to my bone marrow, lungs and lymph system. So to say that I owe my life to the CI is a vast understatement! I have been blessed to participate in three clinical trials during treatments, and the results of some of the trials have been used on me. How special and gratifying is that!
Rumor has it you’re the reigning champion saleswoman of the UAMS Partners Card. Why should people participate?
Partners Card is a triple crown winner for all concerned. The participating merchants get increased sales and new customers, the card purchaser gets 20 percent off from participating stores for a 10-day period and every penny of the card sale proceeds goes to cancer patient support. It is a win-win for all!
