Literacy Action of Central Arkansas Celebrates 30 Years with Shine a Light on Literacy Event

On Friday, Sept. 16, the eighth annual Shine a Light on Literacy event returns to benefit Literacy Action of Central Arkansas at Next Level Events in the Historic Train Station in downtown Little Rock.

The Literacy Action of Central Arkansas provides reading classes for adults and English language skills to non-native adults, and does it free of charge — depending fully upon the generosity of volunteers and donors. Shine a Light on Literacy is an event developed to help offset some of their expenses, and serves as a chance to show the organization’s progress and the difference made in people’s lives on a daily basis.

What makes this year’s event so exciting is that 2016 marks Literacy Action’s 30th anniversary. The celebratory night will feature music, auctions, food and drinks and more with Rep. Warwick Sabin and Jessica DeLoach Sabin serving as co-chairs. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn about low literacy in central Arkansas from several students and tutors who will share their experiences with the program.

Next Level Events is located at 1400 W Markham St.; individual tickets are $55 and can be purchased hereIf you’re unable to attend the event, but still wish to donate, Literacy Action has set up an online page to do just that. Click here if interested.
