Juanita’s Closing Doors Dec. 20

After 30 years of fiestas, tacos and salsa (the dip and the dance), we are saying “adios” to Juanita’s Restaurant on Dec. 20.

“We know that we’ve made decisions many did not agree with, but we want you to know that above all we tried to deliver the best entertainment and best food we could. This has been a labor of love from the music we booked to the relationships we established with so many special customers, employees, and vendors,” the company posted on their Facebook page.

According to the Facebook post, Juanita’s has made arrangements for the shows scheduled in 2016 to be moved to the Metroplex Events Center in Little Rock and ticket purchases will still be valid for those shows.

Juanita’s made its own flour tortillas, offered vegetarian novelties like spinach enchiladas and mushroom fajitas.

“We really introduced a whole different level of Mexican food to the market,” founder Mark Abernathy told our sister publication Arkansas Business.

The restaurant has gone through quite a few ownership changes and went up for sale again in July, and reportedly have money problems, with more than $3,500 in delinquent taxes.
