It’s Your Last Day to Enter the Southern Silks DIY Derby Hat Contest

Time to break out the glue guns.

Southern Silks, an annual celebration of the Kentucky Derby, was first postponed from this spring and is now making the move to virtual with a fun twist.

Young and old are invited to enter a DIY derby day hat (or fascinator) contest with anything they have around the house — old toys, flowers, ribbons, paint, glitter, etc.— the more over the top, the better. Participants have until 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 31 to submit photos of their creation to foundation@methodistfamily.org.

The winner will be announced at the virtual event on Saturday, Sept. 5, livestreamed on Methodist Family Health’s Facebook page and YouTube channel along with faux horse races, prizes and an auction. Learn more about Southern Silks here.

Southern Silks proceeds go to support the programs of the Methodist Family Health Foundation, a nonprofit that provides psychiatric and behavioral healthcare to children and families in Arkansas, serving more than 2,000 children every day program-wide.

To learn more about the Methodist Family Health Foundation, visit the organization’s website or follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
