How to DIY a Boo-tiful Centerpiece

It’s spooky season, and life is gourd. Your weekends are packed with pumpkin picking, hayrides, festivals and maybe a fun-sized candy bar (or two). One item left unchecked on your pre-Halloween bucket list: setting up eerie-sistible decor.

With less than two weeks remaining before trick-or-treating night, Chris Norwood, AIFD, vice president of Tipton & Hurst, is sharing how you can create boo-tiful arrangements at home:

1. Pick your pot. The vessel you select not only anchors your flowers, it sets the overall mood for your celebrations. Feeling ghoulish? Opt for a dark moody pitcher, ghost bud vases or cauldron. For a more playful and affordable alternative, repurpose a colorful candy bucket.

2. Build a base. Fall florals offer gourd-geous hues and are easily accessible in gardens, local shops and at farmers markets. Create a hearty arrangement that will last through October — or longer — with a base of full-bodied blooms such as carnations, chrysanthemums and gerbera daisies. (Pro tip: Stock up with “Happy Hour Flowers” all day Wednesdays at Tipton & Hurst.)

3. Accessorize. Halloween is for dressing up, and that includes your floral arrangement. Once your base of flowers is in place, add in colorful and sparkly sticks, pom poms, spiders or seasonal accessories for an even more festive look.

4. Lift your spirits. Halloween or fall purist? Swap out the glitter for traditional accent stems like wheat, sunflowers or roses to add extra height and dimension, and to extend the life of your arrangement well beyond Oct. 31.

Your candy coma is just around the corner. Whether you’re hosting a safe, spellbinding soirée or staying in to binge scary movies, you’re bound to have a wicked good time with this spooky decor.
