February is American Heart Month and physicians at St. Vincent Heart Clinic Arkansas are raising awareness about heart disease prevention. We reached out to Dr. Eleanor E. Kennedy for great ideas and tips to help you get heart healthy.
These six tips are designed to help you develop healthy habits one step at a time. Change is rarely easy, but sometimes it can be fun, relaxing and healthy. Start with the tip that you think you’ll have the greatest success at making a part of your life – then move on to the more difficult ones. Chances are you’ll start to see changes that make you feel better and help contribute to a healthy heart lifestyle that becomes routine for you.
- Take a walk during lunch today and swing your arms as you’re walking.
- Turn on some lively music and dance while doing household chores.
- Include a vegetable or fruit and whole-grain bread in every meal you eat today.
- Rather than drinking lowfat milk today, enjoy a glass of skim milk instead.
- Have your blood pressure checked regularly.
- Eat a handful of almonds instead of potato chips today.
Before starting any exercise program check with your physician to determine the best program for you.
