It’s Friday AND National Donut Day– what could be better?
To celebrate everyone’s favorite breakfast sweet treat, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, 1315 S. Shackleford Rd., Little Rock, will be giving away one free doughnut to visitors today to raise awareness for The Salvation Army and its food programs.
Visitors will be able to pick out a free doughnut of their choice at the store. And while you are satisfying your sweet tooth, Salvation Army representatives on hand who will be at the store collecting donations for The Salvation Army’s food programs feeding the homeless, victims of natural disasters and low-income families.
The nonprofit celebrated the first National Doughnut Day in 1938 in Chicago as a way to honor Salvation Army “doughnut lassies” from World War I. They started the Day as a way to raise funds and bring awareness to the Army’s social service programs during the Great Depression.
And today, they continue that tradition to help raise awareness for the critical services they provide to 30 million Americans in need each year.
