Downtown Little Rock is breaking out the skeletons over the next few weeks with some seasonal outdoor festivities..
First up, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership (DLRP) partnered with CWP Productions to host free Halloween movie nights in the Main Street Pocket Park. On Oct. 14, “Hocus Pocus” will be on the big screen, and the Oct. 28 movie has yet to be announced. Update: The screening will be of Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.”
Both screenings start at 7 p.m. with Stone’s Throw Brewing providing draft beer, and water and popcorn will be available for purchase. Attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets, but no personal coolers will be permitted.
“We have enjoyed hosting many great events and activities in the Main Street Pocket Park since it opened in May,” said Gabe Holmstrom, executive director of DLRP. “This is yet another opportunity to bring people downtown, provide family-friendly entertainment and show them how wonderful our city is.”

Next on the event calendar is the Day of the Dead alley party, known as el Dia de los Muertos, on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The celebration will be held 5-8 p.m. at the Central Arkansas Library System’s Main Library Alley, and will feature authentic Mexican food, drinks and music.
“We look forward to seeing families and friends come together for a joyous evening of Mexican tradition celebrating all the souls who have had an impact on our lives,” said Maria de Monservat Aguilar, the CALS Latinx Community Liaison.
Some of the traditional Day of the Dead customs that will be represented include handmade, seven-layer-tall altars, also known as ofrendas, to honor the souls of loved ones who have passed. The public is invited to bring photos of their loved ones or an altar offering in their loved one’s honor.
“Dia de Muertos is not a day of mourning; it is a joyful celebration, a way to pay tribute to our deceased loved ones,” Aguilar said. “We invite attendees to come see the elaborate altar that will be displayed the event, and to lay traditional offerings.”
The celebration will be hosted by the DLRP, CALS and Mexican Consulate of Little Rock.
