Goodbye, old friend.
As one local pizzeria celebrates an anniversary, another one bites the dust. Gusano’s Chicago-Style Pizzeria, a River Market staple, has closed its doors for good.
Opened in 2004, the deep dish-slinging joint was well-loved, but after an embattled past few months, the curtain finally closed on Gusano’s.
Building owners Newmark Moses Tucker Partners announced on social media that the space at 313 President Clinton Ave. was officially available for lease, ending speculation and rumors after Gusano’s “closed for maintenance” last week, according to the restaurant’s Jan. 19 Facebook post.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, on Jan. 14 a Pulaski County deputy carried out an eviction as part of a lawsuit wherein the restaurant allegedly owed more than $24,000 in back rent and other charges.
Gusano’s has nine locations across Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Texas, but the River Market location is no longer listed on the restaurant’s website.
And while we mourn the loss of a downtown great, we can’t help but wonder: What will move in next?
