MISSION:
As the oldest domestic violence shelter in the state, Women & Children First has worked tirelessly for the past 45 years to empower victims to live independently and free from domestic violence. WCF provides crisis intervention, safe shelter, support services as well as social and legal advocacy.
WCF is taking the bold steps to create not only a larger shelter featuring 44 rooms with a bed capacity of 132, but also the family peace center — a concept which will house all of the agencies a victim of family violence must go to in order to put her and her children’s lives back together. The peace center model is successfully being used in over 300 U.S. locations and an additional 300 international locations.
The new Family Peace Center, which will be called The Forest of Hope, will be a comprehensive facility in which many agencies come together to provide consolidated and coordinated legal, social and health services to women and children in need. It will be a place where a victim only has to tell their story one time. The entire process leads to education, services, job training and independence. The new Family Peace Center will be a public location. Of course, there will be security, but all persons suffering from any type of domestic abuse will easily find the new facility.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN OF COURAGE:
Inspired by the thousands of women and children who have found the courage to leave an abusive situation, we have launched the Campaign of Courage, a capital campaign to create Arkansas’ first Family Peace Center.
